New Zoom YuJa Connector Makes Saving and Sharing your Zoom Recordings Easier!

YuJa and Zoom company logos being added together

ITS has just implemented a connector linking our Zoom web conferencing tool with our video capture and media management system, YuJa. Moving forward, all recordings made in Zoom will automatically import into your personal media space within YuJa for storage and sharing.

What does this mean for you? First off, you are no longer limited by the 30-day retention policy for recordings within Zoom. You can feel confident that any recordings made during Zoom meetings will automatically and seamlessly transfer to YuJa for permanent storage and retrieval. In addition, you can take advantage of many features within YuJa to autocaption, edit, clip, and share recordings with individual students, classes, external colleagues, or to the public. If you use the Zoom tool within Canvas to schedule your class Zoom sessions, resulting recordings will even automatically publish to your course channel, making them immediately accessible to your students from within Canvas.

You can access your imported recordings by navigating to YuJa from your MyApps page or by clicking the YuJa link in any of your Canvas courses. Once in YuJa, look for a folder in your personal media area titled “Zoom Recordings”.

How do I share a YuJa video with another W&L user?

Sharing your YuJa content with a direct link is a great way to allow other W&L users to view your video. Whether it’s a classroom lecture, tutorial, or Zoom meeting that you need share, here’s how you go about it:

1. Go to myapps.wlu.edu and type in your W&L credentials. Click on the YuJa tile.

2. Hover over the media you would like to share.

3. Click on More… to open the Media Details pane:
Hovering over the desired YuJa video

4. Click on the Links tab:
clicking on the Links tab in the Media Details pane of a YuJa video

5. Click the Copy to Clipboard button next to the Direct Link field.

6. Share the Direct Link with any user that you wish!

7. Pat yourself on the back!

Note that the default security setting is set to platform authentication which means that only those who can log in to YuJa with W&L credentials can view the shared video. If you need to share media with someone outside of W&L, on the Links tab,  click on the Security Settings button, uncheck Password or Authentication Restriction, and click the Save button.

The above steps also work if you have a folder of media you want to share! Hover over the folder, click on More…, then click on the Links tab.

Time for Spring Cleaning! How to Download Videos from YuJa

The past year has seen an unprecedented growth in the use of YuJa. ITS is very pleased at the role this service has played in facilitating teaching and learning on our campus despite the impact of the global pandemic. That said, we are rapidly approaching our allocated storage maximum and need to recover space for the continued functionality of the service.

You may have already been contacted by ITS asking you to allow us to remove all recordings made or uploaded prior to the start of the Undergraduate Winter 2021/Law Spring 2021 term.

Even if you haven’t, it would be prudent to review your videos and download any that don’t need to remain in YuJa.

Here’s how!

To download multiple recordings:

  2. Select multiple video files by using shift-click, ctrl-click, or command-click. Choose ctrl-click to add media one selection at a time, or use shift-click to select an entire section of content. You may also navigate to  and choose Select All to choose all content within the folder.multiple videos selected in YuJa using control+click
  3. Click More Actions at the top of the screen.
Select the desired bulk option. Options include: Bulk Delete, Bulk Move, Bulk Download, Bulk Publish, Bulk Unpublish, Bulk Share, Bulk Owner and Bulk Tag.
Each option works in the same way as managing a single file; however, actions are applied to all selected files.

FYI! Auto-captioning in YuJa will no longer be automatically generated!

    Dear Faculty,

In order to accommodate the dramatic increase in usage for our YuJa video management service due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to adjust some of the default settings for video recordings and uploads to the service.  In particular, auto-captions will no longer be generated for all recordings and uploads by default.

All videos added to YuJa still will have the option of auto captioning — it will just need to be requested by interested faculty on a video-by-video basis.  The request is made through YuJa and an email will be sent to you when captioning is complete.

Instructions for requesting auto captions for a video are available at: https://wlu.box.com/s/4mwhkswgrgydhbsqnqa8ojm566resava.

We apologize for any inconvenience this adjustment may cause.

Please email the ITS Information Desk at help@wlu.edu or call 540-458-4357 with any questions or concerns.

    Lecture Capture with YuJa

W&L is transitioning from Tegrity to YuJa, an all-in-one service for recording, editing, storing and streaming multi-formatted video and audio content, including screen capture, across any device. (This transition is taking place because McGraw-Hill is discontinuing Tegrity.)

In addition to lecture capture, YuJa (pronounced “you-jah”) can be used for video management, live streaming, video conferencing and creating video quizzes. YuJa offers the same major features as Tegrity, but with additional flexibility and capabilities, and can be used from within the classroom or from a personal computer or mobile device.

It is available to all faculty, staff, and students and is integrated with Canvas
